Forward walk
leg body, leg body, leg body body body
tick tick, tick tick, tick boom boom boom
Backward walks
bending and passing has to start earlier
and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and 1….
leg action on the “a”
arrive split weight, rather than full weight
Direction changes
-Direct reversal: act like a bouncing ball that hits a wall. Send leg significantly ahead of the body center to create the “wall”. Split weight. Foot turned out. Don’t go forward with centerline movement, go forward with pelvis.
Every backwards walk is split weight, so you don’t have this problem on backwards change of direction.
Side step (cucaracha): also send leg ahead of body center. use pelvis to reverse.
-Rotational
outside (hip turn): 1. energy comes from pelvis 2. free leg collects under body
create rotational momentum using the pelvis, then release that momentum and collect your free leg.
The pivot point should be inner edge of ball of foot (near big toe), not the heel. Work the standing leg as you turn the pelvis.
inside (forward walk turning):
Hold pelvis, forward walk. Twist both feet, so that the body ends up following. Free leg does not come under the body.
Two phases of walking, one turn fits with one phase, the other fits with the other phase. Inside turn is the body action. Outside is the leg action. Forward walk turning on the “and”.
New yorker and spot turn
4 and 1 and, then outside turn (NYer). Checked forward walk. Backward walk which finishes sideways. Turn foot out on the way back, body naturally follows. Then hip turn, compress in pelvis, replace
hip turn, forward walk turning (a), then hip turn
leg body, leg body, leg body body body
